Valentine - The Norwich Dragon

Very few people know that a real dragon once lived in Norwich. He lived on the hill where Norwich Castle now stands and, of course, he was there a long, long time before it was built.  In his day it was surrounded by a huge forest which stretched for as far as the eye could see and all his animal and bird friends lived within it. At that time humans lived a very long way away but they often took their children to meet Valentine. He would roar at them, flames would escape from his flared nostrils and the children would scream with delight. After all, he was a very playful dragon.

Valentine watched lovingly over the forest from his hill and ensured that no harm came to any of the creatures within it, animal or human. But change was coming and it was coming fast.
